Depression and things that can help

Many of you may not be aware that daily I am around mentally ill people and although I am not a professional in that right- I hear alot and see alot and its hard to deal with daily life let alone add a "condition" on it.  Since becoming a part of the Saba team- I have been increasingly interested in more and more helps for our mental health as well as our physical health. To me "skinny" does not mean healthy. You NEED fat and weight and bones that are strong. You need to be able to function and lift and do all those daily things we take for granted. Being healthy to me means being in good physical shape and having a good working body inside and out. And if you are not emotionally stable how can you be physically stable? Now sometimes I know that anxiety and depression are situational ( and EVERYONE goes through something sooner or later in life- its not a label its part of life). I also know that when you get off kilter it takes a while to get back on track- weather pulling a muscle (like I did in my chest of all places took about a week -hence reason not as many posts on this page) or it be the death of a loved one- it takes your body or mind or spirit or whatever time to heal. YOU ARE A HUMAN and this is what is true.

SO in watching some friends lately and seeing what all is going on and wanting to fix things- and believe me I do pray for a great many friends daily- but I wanted to do more. I know ACE has stuff in it to help elevate mood and all of that kind of stuff but I also know it is a "stimulant" which for some people is going to cause other side effects. I also know what is in Prime One Concentrate and in Saba Pomegranate Juice and Prime One... These have the adaptogens that help lower stress and anxiety and help improve cellular regeneration and repairing cells and even brain function to a point over  a period of time. These are amazing products- but what other healthy alternatives do we have?

----Diet and Depression--
------------Nutrients are needed for your bodies growth and repair and wellness. This includes vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, protein and small amounts of fat (the good kinds) . Things with beta carotene, vitamin E, and vitamin C are full of antioxidants and can help your body from taking in all of those free radicals causing some of the issues of depression. Foods such as apricots, broccoli, cantaloupe, blue berries, grapefruit, sweet potatoes, kiwi, oranges, margarine, nuts and seeds are part of these 3 groups and can help alleviate some of the depression if your body has what it needs. Eat smart carbohydrates- these are linked to the mood boosting chemical of the brain -serotonin. Don't exclude carbs from your diet make them a part of your daily intake just make smart choices. Smart carbs can have a calming effect. These include whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables they also contribute to fiber for your daily diet. Protein rich foods boost alertness. Things like low fat cheese, beans, peas, poultry, yogurt, and soy products are helpful proteins for daily living. Mediterranean diet-this has alot of grains, vegetables, fish, nuts fruits and cereals. If doing a diet like that be aware that vitamin B 12 is usually at a low intake. Vitamin D deficiency  can cause depression. During seasonal bouts with depression, people upping the amount of vitamin D in their diets found some relief. There are vitamin D receptors in the brain- it is needed. Selenium rich foods are a must- pretty much we have already discussed all of these foods but you may not be aware of what has selenium in it daily- beans, legumes, lean meat, low fat dairy, nuts and seeds, seafood, and whole grains. Omega 3 fatty acids - it has been shown that societies that eat less fatty acids tend to have a higher level of depression. A good source of fatty acid is fatty fish (anchovies, mackerel, etc). ALSO- alpha-linolenic acid comes from flax seed, canola oil, soybean oil, walnuts and dark green leafy vegetables. Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Mood altering drugs ( yes alcohol is included in this) can cause issues with your stability. Drugs and alcohol can really cause depression can be "downers" and cause issues with motivation and with the desire to eat healthier. Also if not getting enough sleep at night you can be causing more issues with depression. Stay a healthy weight. well you all know that this is why I started my blog in the first place- I needed to do something more for my health and families health. All of us being over weight were not doing what we needed to do as a family. Now the changes are evident.  There is a constant link between obesity and depression. Researchers believe that the link between obesity and physiological changes occur in the immune system and hormones with depression.
