What I Have Learned About Health from my Mother

Many of you may not be aware why I am not as active as I normally am on my blog- and to all my readers- I am sorry. My mother recently had to have a back infusion where they implanted metal rods into her spinal column and replaced 5 discs ( This happened on Tuesday). There is also a bone graft that has to happen at the same time. Since the surgery we thought she was improving and was to be discharged however right now she is still inpatient. SO we are still up and down at the hospital and trying to keep in touch (She is a little over an hour away from me). But while I have been thinking of her this morning as I am getting ready to head back to the hospital- I remember as a child...My mother was over 230 pounds in her early thirties and she was so miserable. She loved us girls so much and wanted to "be more" for us. I remember her saying those things. To be honest I did not understand until I became a mom and felt I could not "be more" for my kids. My mother decided she was only 5'1" and she needed to do something about it. In the 1980's some of you may remember a program called the "diet center". You don't hear about those much any more. But what they did was different- it was not prepackaged food or just a ton of pills you took- although I strongly remember her taking her water pills and taking her vinegar pills. She did this and followed a regimen of exercise. They recommended riding bikes and running. My mother was not a bout to run, although she loved riding those bikes on my grandparents farm. I remember my sisters and I playing in the road while my mom and grandmother and grandfather rode thier bikes. And in time she got down to about 125 pounds- and for her that was way too skinny even at 34 years old. Over time she has fought off and on with her weight but the things she has taught me are EAT healthy, supplements are good but vitamins and minerals are in the natural stuff. EXERCISE - they say now a days that you can exercise 30 minutes a day and be done--- UNTIL RECENTLY I DID NOT KNOW THAT IT HAD TO BE HIGH PACED OVER THE TOP GO TIL YOU DROP TYPE EXERCISE... It needs to be high intensity cardio for 30 full minutes to get the best fat burning results ( you can look that up on web md or livestrong if you like). THe toning exercises are PERFECT for after you finish the cardio part. My mom used to take us on long walks and while in highschool we had to run alot and we danced all the time. She taught us how to muti task and stay busy- although for a long time I DIDN'T want to- I wanted to stay at home and relax on the couch and do my little piddly cleaning and nothing more! My outlook on life has changed. And although there are some issues with her surgery after the fact- SHE HAS NO ISSUES WITH HER HEART, SHE HAS NO ISSUES WITH HER BLOOD, NO ISSUES WITH SUGAR, NO ISSUES WITH ANYTHING. How many 55-65 year olds can say that now? And although she is in pain ( we are checking to see if a nerve was pinched or something during the procedure now just waiting on results) I know she is healthy and happy. She has worked her adult life to stay in shape and keep looking and feeling good- not so much for being skinny and saying it, but so glad she is where she is today with her health because if not we could have many more complications. I also want to say that before the procedure and in the past year she has been taking ACE off and on to lose a little here and there as we all know the WEIGHT CAN COME BACK when we go off our healthy kicks for short stints. But I am very proud of her and SO GLAD she set a good example of how to do things right- she also showed me at a young age it helps to have some one support you in your weight loss. Many parents do not do that kind of thing now, just thankful mine has and still does. ****DONT FORGET ABOUT THE CANDLE GIVE AWAY! *****

GAPS diet plan-Application through ANDROID services

First I am going to introduce you to what GAPS is and why I chose to review such a thing. GAPS stands for Gut and Psychological Syndrome.  This program- GAPS-was developed by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. The App was developed to help spread the word to as many more people as possible about the GAPS Diet.

This program-GAPS- has a reputation of healing the body from the inside out. There are resources and books to buy on this product for more information you can get the APP at Gaps Diet App. Dr. Campbell-McBride refers our guts as  the "second brain". Your stomach is responsible for many health issues. This diet is recommended for a variety of reasons- austism, kids suffering from severe allergies, Tourettes Syndrome, Schizophrenia, children and adults with ADD and ADHD  and other illnesses and diseases that are sky rocketing in recent years.  This diet will heal the stomach using broths and animal products and cuts out grains and sugars. As your gut heals you slowly start to re-introduce different food groups.

After downloading the APP I did watch the videos and I did read what I could on the app- it also has links to a facebook page for parental support or even adults that are on the diet. Most people are seeing results - some quicker than others.  They openly discuss thier success and what is working and what is not working. They are helpful to eachother as well as having doctors chime in on the information. There are also recipe ideas to help the parents to make things a little differently.  The app in itself is very interesting, just in reading what is available and what is in the system reveals alot about the diet. I myself having 2 children one with asthma, allergies and eczema and the other child is diagnosed with adhd and allergies and behavioral issues. I have thought about purchasing the book to go along with the APP but have not done so as of yet.  If your child has some of these diagnosis or has some kind of illness or maybe you as an adult have some of these issues- you may want to review the information on the APP watch the videos and keep an eye out on the facebook page, read what you can out of the book on your phone. The app also has links to order the book(s) by Dr. Campbell-McBride. I also think that if you were sketchy on purchasing a book like this- the APP is perfect to sit back and watch real life results and issues with the diet while others are already doing it. Its a great resource to rule out if the product or book would be helpful to you or your family.  And what better way to find out if a specific product would work for your family than on your Android device!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

WHAT IS ACE?

This morning I wanted to go a little deeper with what ACE really is- Yes it is a capsule- but why does it give you the energy? And how does it work? well with the mixture of ingredients- I mean really that is all there is to it. Check it out and do some research on it yourself if you like to see what else you can come up with- I looked up the following ingredients (not the first time I have done this) and these are the benefits and things that come out of each ingredient separately- the information I gathered is off of PURE MATTERS, WIKKIPEDIA, and MINERAL DEFICIENCY webpages and are not my own, however I cannot recall where I got the picture from- definately one of those sites.

Vitamin B-6? Essential vitamin supports many vital body functions, including nervous and immune system function.* Also plays a part in protein and fat metabolism.*Vitamin B-6 is a water-soluble essential vitamin needed by the body for good health.** It can be found in many foods including beans, meat, poultry, fish, some fruits and vegetables and fortified cereals.

Chromium plays a role in the release of energy from cells.**
Chromium supports carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism.**
Chromium helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels already within a normal range.**

Cocoa powder contains several minerals including calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc. All of these minerals are found in greater quantities in cocoa powder than either cocoa butter or cocoa liquor. Cocoa solids also contain 230 mg of caffiene and 2057 mg of theobrime per 100g, which are mostly absent from the other components of the cocoa bean.

Green Tea-

Vanadium is a compound found in tiny amounts in plants and animals. Moreover vanadium is a trace mineral that is present in many foods and may be essential, in small amounts, in the body.

Exercise

I have not always been one to exercise regularly or even encourage others to do so. I mean really I am a mom and a wife and work full time- I have a full schedule!  So to keep myself motivated you know I do take ACE but I also know that his has helped me improve my lifestyle alot. I enjoy working out although not alone. And although my husband is on ACE working out to him is like a bad word at times!

So in looking for more inspiration- I have done some research and I know for a fact when I exercise morning or night I feel better and relax more and able to sleep better. Its mental for me as well as physical- allows me to burn off that stress rather than hold onto it. It allows me to keep things from getting too far and when I am really upset well It helps me push that work out harder. I am going to be completely honest- I have not worked out in a week or so- well because of Vacation Bible School and other things going on. I am thinking a good run before tonights session would not hurt though :)

Here is some research type things I have found.
Remember to stay hydrated- alot of people miss out on that when trying to lose weight- just not aware of how much they are losing- and if feeling weak and super tired- keep in mind calories- but nothing wrong with a replinishing drink or gatorade. Both have electrolytes you need to keep your body where you need it- those super hard exercises in the summers heat really can mess you up- hmmm another reason for switching to mornings!

I hope this inspires you to change it up a bit!

*Exercising early in the morning "jump starts" your metabolism, keeping it elevated for hours, sometimes for up to 24 hours! As a result, you’ll be burning more calories all day long—just because you exercised in the morning.
*Exercising in the morning energizes you for the day—not to mention that gratifying feeling of virtue you have knowing you’ve done something disciplined and good for you. (Much better than a worm!)
Studies have shown that exercise significantly increases mental acuity—a benefit that lasts four to ten hours after your workout ends. Exercising in the a.m. means you get to harness that brainpower, instead of wasting it while you’re snoozing.
*Assuming you make exercise a true priority, it shouldn’t be a major problem to get up 30 to 60 minutes earlier—especially since regular exercise generally means a higher quality of sleep, which in turn means you’ll probably require less sleep. (If getting up 30 to 60 minutes earlier each day seems too daunting, you can ease into it with 10 to 20 minutes at first.)
*When you exercise at about the same time every morning—especially if you wake up regularly at about the same time—you’re regulating your body's endocrine system and circadian rhythms. Your body learns that you do the same thing just about every day, and it begins to prepare for waking and exercise several hours before you actually open your eyes. That’s beneficial because:
Your body’s not “confused” by wildly changing wake-up times, which means waking up is much less painful. (You may even find that you don’t need an alarm clock most days.) Hormones prepare your body for exercise by regulating blood pressure, heart rate, blood flow to muscles, etc.
*Your metabolism, along with all the hormones involved in activity and exercise, begin to elevate while you're sleeping. As a result, you’ll feel more alert, energized, and ready to exercise when you do wake up.
*  Many people find that morning exercise has a tendency to regulate their appetite for the rest of the day. Not only do they eat less (since activity causes the release of endorphins, which in turn diminishes appetite), they also choose healthier portions of healthier foods.  People who consistently exercise find, sometimes to their great surprise, that the appointed time every morning evolves into something they look forward to. Besides the satisfaction of taking care of themselves, they find it’s a great time to plan their day, pray, or just think more clearly—things most of us often don’t get to do otherwise.
* Exercising first thing in the morning is the most foolproof way to ensure that other things don’t overtake your fitness commitment, particularly if you have a hectic family life. (It’s so easy to wimp out in the evening, when we’re tired or faced with such tasks as rustling up dinner and helping with homework.)
* More than 90% of those who exercise consistently have a morning fitness routine. If you want to exercise on a regular basis, the odds are in your favor if you squeeze your workout into the a.m.  Non-morning people can always trick themselves in the a.m.

I hope these facts and ideas are helpful to your continued care on your weightloss journey or even if you are just needing to keep slim and trim!  I will be there one day!
